The Year in Review

It’s hard to believe, but another year has flown right by us!  As is customary, we are taking a look back at some of our industry’s major headlines that kept us on the edge of our seats (and keyboards!) this year.  Below is a look at some of the highlights.  Enjoy this stroll down memory lane, and we’ll be back in 2015!

Category 8 – Not even a completed standard yet, and at the very top of our list for the most talked about issue of the year! OCC published a wildly popular article for Cabling Installation and Maintenance titled, “How Cat 8 Cable will economically solve data centers’ need for high bandwidth.” The article was published in May of 2013, and 18 months later, it is still one of the most downloaded articles from Cabling Install’s website.

For Sale or Not For Sale – That was the question!  In the winter, there was a short period of time where rumors were rampant that distribution giant Anixter was up for sale. The company never would confirm or deny the allegations, but apparently, since Anixter was never purchased by anyone, the rumor was exactly that . . . .

What (Who) goes around comes back around – The return of AT&T to the enterprise cabling market was an enormously popular story for several weeks back in the fall.  However, only after Cabling Installation and Business initially reported on AT&T’s return was it was made known that the company’s product lines are not available to the U.S. Market.

The perilous life of a cable installer – Two stories Cabling Install published close-in-time to each other proved popular.  Both serve as harsh reminders of the dangers and hassles cable installers and technicians face on a daily basis. In July, we heard about a Comcast technician who found himself staring down the barrel of a handgun because the residential customer took issue with the service-call fee.  Shortly thereafter, they published/shared a slightly more lighthearted article titled “25 reasons why cable technicians hate you.”  Definitely not for the faint of heart, but a humorous read!

There are more “Top Topics” to read on the Cabling Installation and Maintenance website.  Click here for the full article.

As you reminisce about your year, know that all of us at DCO Distribution are wishing you peace, happiness and success in 2015!

Happy New Year!
